Welcome!   Spring Training camp has broken and our former players and coaches are off to their new assignments for 2009.  Over 100 Volcanoes are in the Giants system and 12 are currently on the big league squad.  Our staff here in the front office is working on our assignments for the new season that is just a few short weeks away in what looks like to be another great one.    Let the new season begin!

Ticket sales for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 2009 season are flying out the door in the wake of the team's back to back to back division championship season.

 

The Volcanoes attractive home schedule again will include seven fireworks shows, a strong lineup of special events and attractions and a nationally recognized series of community outreach events.  Yet, with ticket sales approaching 60,000, the Volcanoes have excellent seating available in every category including lower level, box seat season tickets.  The 5-, 10- and 19-game ticket packages continue to be popular with fans.

 

This year's 5-game package includes Opening Night on June 23rd when the franchise will start their 13th season in Salem-Keizer. Fiesta de Beisbol and Kid's Run the Bases with Crater on Sunday, July 5th.  On Saturday July 25th, it's Corvette Night at the ballpark and National Singing Artist Courtney Jones will put on a post game concert that is included with admission to the game.  Thursday, August 6th is Dollar Thursday - When select adult beverages are available in the Lava Lodge Sports Pub for only $1.00. We end this package with a blast! Our Final Friday Night Fireworks Spectacular after the game on Friday, September 4th

 

Catch every team in the league with this season's 10-Game Package

You be the judge as to which team has the best young talent in the Northwest League. Games include: Opening Night on Tuesday, June 23rd vs. Boise, Friday June 26th is our first Friday Night Fireworks Spectacular.  Monday, July 6th vs. the Tri-City Dust Devils and Bi-Mart Monday - be sure to bring your Bi-Mart Card to show for special discounts throughout the park . Thursday, July 16th it's versus our I-5 Rivals the Eugene Emeralds and also $1.00 Thursday when select adult beverages are only a dollar at the Lava Lodge Sports Pub.  Friday, July 24th vs. the Yakima Bears and another Friday Night Spectacular Fireworks show.  Tuesday, August 4th versus the Spokane Indians and the Mark Howard Memorial Speedway Night.  Monday, August 17th vs. the Everett Aquasox is another Bi-Mart Monday and also Faith and Family Night.  Sunday, August 23rd vs. the Vancouver Canadians and it's Frank Lumber Kid's Baseball Clinic from 3pm to 4pm when the Volcanoes Players put on a baseball skills clinic on the field for the kids and is included with admission to the ballpark.  Also, each kid that attends the clinic will receive a free baseball compliments of Frank Lumber and the Volcanoes.  Friday, August 28th versus the Everett Aquasox in the final showdown between these two teams for the season, after the game we'll have another great fireworks display immediately following the game.      Saturday, September 5th versus the Eugene Emeralds in the final series of the regular season and in what in the past has been the deciding games for the division championship followed by a post game concert that is included with your admission to the game. 

 

For the fans that want more...how about the 19-Game Package? One half of the team's home schedule provides the live summer action your looking for: Games versus Boise - Opening Night on June 23rd, June 25th and June 27th that includes a post game concert with Maggie Feiber immediately following the game.  Next you'll have your seats for the best fireworks show in the valley for the 4th of July - not to mention watching the Volcanoes take on the Tri-City Dust Devils. On July 8th, It's San Francisco Giants Night, when the Volcanoes put on the uniforms of their major league affiliate when playing Tri-City in the final game of the series.  Special guests and events will take place that evening.  July 15th and 17th the Volcanoes take on their I-5 rivals the Eugene Emeralds with fireworks on the game on the 17th.  Next the Yakima Bears come to town and you'll have tickets for the games on July 23rd - Dollar Thursday, July 26th - Kid's Run the Bases with Crater and July 27th - Red Cross Blood Drive Night and Bi-Mart Monday.  The 2008 NWL Champion, Spokane Indians come in for a five game series and you have tickets for the August 3rd - Crater's Birthday Party and Friday, August 7th - Post Game Fireworks and the first night of our Cancer Awareness Weekend.  Monday, August 10th the Oakland A's Affiliate the Vancouver Canadians are in town and it's one of our fan favorite nights as the Civil War comes to the stadium - make sure to wear your favorite Ducks or Beaver gear and support your favorite team!  The Mariners affiliate the Everett Aquasox are next to visit the Crater and you'll be there for the games on Sunday, August 16th - Kid's Run the Bases with Crater after the game and Tuesday, August 18th - Our Home Town Heroes Night when we pay tribute to those courageous men and women who protect us in our communities.   The battle of the border continues when the Canadians make their last appearance of the season on the Monday, August 24th and Tuesday, August 25th.  Everett will be here Thursday, August 27th and our last Dollar Thursday of the regular season.  The package concludes with the last game of the regular season against the Eugene Emeralds on Sunday, September 6th in what in the past has proven to be the deciding game of the division championship - Kid's will also get to Run the Bases with Crater for the last time this season.

 

Sales of group nights have also been brisk and groups and organizations interested in booking an evening at the Stadium should contact Greg Herbst, the Volcanoes Director of Group Ticketing, as soon as possible to reserve their evening, especially if they want to come on a Fireworks Friday.  We have added some new on-line order features to make it even easier to set up your groups.

Volcanoes Give Back

 

Crater has been busy in the Community

The last two months have been busy for the Volcanoes Mascot Crater.  He joined the Cummings Elementary "Around the World" Carnival and Sherman Williams Grand Opening in Keizer, both of which are new friends of the Volcanoes.  He was also very busy visiting the Little League Grand Opening Ceremonies. You will see Crater this weekend at the YMCA Healthy Kids Fair and leading the parade over the new walking bridge into Wallace Marine Park.  Watch for Crater in May he will be having fun at the Awesome 3000 at McCulloch Stadium in Salem.  If you are interested in Crater appearances please Contact Kelly Hurst at 503/399-2225 or by email at k.hurst@volcanoesbaseball.com.

The 2009 baseball season is filling up quickly with non-profits and other organizations raising money for their cause.  Fundraising with the Volcanoes has proved to be very beneficial to several organizations wanting to promote awareness and raise funds.  The opportunity to promote to an average crowd of over 3000 guests, the recognition received over the Public Service Announcement system, community recognition and the honor of throwing a first pitch for your board members or awesome volunteers is priceless.  The following organizations have already committed to the 2009 season for their fundraisers,

Upcoming Events at the stadium

Pitch, Hit & Run Competition

Saturday, April 25th 3-5pm

 

Volcanoes Stadium will again host the free Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition for area youth.

 

Pitch Hit and Run is the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball.  This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in baseball skills.

 

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and have a chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2009 MLB All-Star Game.

 

This year girls will compete as a separate group in the same age and skills areas but using softballs

 

The individual Pitching, Hitting and Running Champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each age group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the Sectional Level of Competition.

 

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.  For questions concerning the competition, please give Rick Nelson a call here at the stadium 503-390-2225.

 

 

May 2nd  Crater will make an appearance at the Awesome 3000.

The Volcanoes have partnered with the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation to sponsors the 27th Annual running of the Awesome 3000 in Salem. The event is being held at McCulloch Stadium / Bush's Pasture Park - Mission & High Streets, Willamette University

 

 

May 9th Summer Employment Job fair

We will be holding our annual summer job fair on Saturday, May 9th, at Volcanoes Stadium from 11-3.  Available positions include: Concessions, Usher, Ticket Takers and Parking Lot attendant positions.  Must be at least 18.  We will have job descriptions and pre-employment applications on hand.

SALEM-KEIZER VOLCANOES TO HOST 2ND ANNUAL FAN FEST

 

In celebration and honor of the 1.49 million fans passing through the gates since our opening in June, 1997, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes will hold their 2nd Annual Volcanoes Fan Fest.   Be sure to mark your calendars for Father's Day, Sunday, June 21st.

 

The Fan Fest will begin with the annual Father's Day Breakfast from

9:00 AM until noon.   Celebrate with dad, and enjoy a very delicious breakfast.   Throughout the day, there will be numerous fun events, activities and entertainment available such as the 2nd Annual Celebrity Softball Game, Volcanoes Speed Pitch Tent where you can challenge your friends to see who has the best fastball.    Also, the batting cage will be available to get a few swings in, and there is a great playground for the children.

 

The Celebrity Softball game has some really big hitters ranging from former Olympians, Legislators, Salem-Keizer Business Men and Women, Former Major League and NBA Legends, Public Officials, and Media Personalities.   This is an event you will not want to miss.

VOLCANOES COMPLETE 2009 SCHEDULE AND EVENTS LISTING

Things are shaping up to provide another Volcanic Season

 

The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes will feature seven fireworks shows as part of a full complement of special events, feature attractions and community outreach activities. Fireworks will be featured after every regular season Friday night home game and on the Fourth of July.

 

Fans will get their first look at the team at our Non-League Opening Game on Friday, June 19th, when the Volcanoes host the All-Stars for the fifth consecutive year.  The Northwest League home opener is Tuesday, June 23rd, against Boise.   

 

This year we are moving our Saturday game times to 5:05pm to allow for a two hour post game concert immediately following the game that is included with your admission to the game.  The only exception being the Fourth of July game that will start at 7:05 with fireworks following the game instead of the concert.

 

Watch for Bi-Mart Mondays for special values.  Show your Bi-Mart card at the Stadium for any Monday home game and receive an outfield General Admission ticket for $6.00.  Kids 12 and under on Bi-Mart Mondays can also have a hot dog and soft drink for just $1.00 each.  "Two for Tuesdays" offer two reserved tickets, two hot dogs and two soft drinks for $22.00 when purchased in advance.  The Volcanoes will also continue their long tradition of letting kids run the bases after every Sunday home game.

 

For companies, organizations and individuals planning to schedule group nights at the Stadium, it is important to make reservations early to insure your first choice of dates, especially for groups of 25 or more.  For group ticket information and reservations, call Greg Herbst at 503-390-2225.

The Volcanoes recenlty finished in 3rd place in a nationwide vote for Most Popular Minor League Team at the Class A short season level.  The Williamsport Crosscutters and the Vermont Lake Monsters took first and second place respectively in the internet fan balloting ran by Baseball Posts.  That would make the Volcanoes the Most Popular Class A short season team west of Pennsylvania!  Speaking of popular, Volcanoes Stadium was leading in the Statesman Journal's recent online poll for Best Sports Venue in the Mid Willamette Valley.  Final results are due to be announced by the paper on April 26.
 
Volcanoes Pre-Season Game is Set !!   Coursey, Blum, Shepherd and other local Stars to return 'home'.  The Volcanoes pre-season game on Friday, June 19th, will feature some of the best local talent the area has seen in the past few years as a team of All-Stars, many who played at one time for Salem's Post 9 American Legion Team, will play the Volcanoes at Volcanoes Stadium.  Trevor Coursey, first baseman/outfielder, is a West Salem High School grad was all conference for the Titans and earned All NWAACC honors at Chemeketa College.  Steven Blum, another West Salem High School graduate, earned all conference and all state honors in high school, is currently patrolling the outfield at Corban College.  Kevin Shepherd played shortstop for the McNary Celtics and was named to the all conference and all state high school teams.  Shepherd is playing now for Lane Community College.  Mike Eisenhauer, righthanded pitcher out of West Linn High School, played baseball earning all conference honors at the College of The Desert JC.  He now is playing baseball for Western Oregon University.  Greg Bobnick, left handed pitcher fromSandy High School, earned all conference honors at Mt. Hood Community College and plays now at Western Oregon University.  Plus, Jody Potter, right handed all conference pitcher from Willamette High School, who now plays for Lane Community College is expected to play for the All Stars.
 
The All-Stars will be coached by Matt Skundrick who is the Head Coach for Post 9.  Assisting Skundrick will be Nate Mayben who has been at the helm of the Corban College baseball program since June 2006.
 
"We feel it is important to connect with the local non-professional teams in this area," said Jerry Walker, co-owner of the Volcanoes.  "This is a fabulous opportunity for fans to again see some of these great athletes perform, and the venue at Volcanoes Stadium is a perfect place for this to happen."
 
The game is schedule for 7:05pm.  Pre-sale of tickets is possible by contacting the Volcanoes at 503-390-2225 ext 3007.  The Volcanoes policy of saving $1.00 per ticket, on all advance ticket orders will be in effect for this game.

Heading the list on the San Francisco Giant's Opening Day Roster are:   Pitchers -- Noah Lowry ('01), Jonathon Sanchez ('04), Alex Hinshaw ('05), Joe Martinez ('05), Sergio Romo ('05), and Tim Lincecum ('06).   Infielders -- Travis Ishakawa ('03), Pablo Sandoval  ('05), and Emmanuel Burris ('06).    Outfielders -- Fred Lewis ('02), and Nate Schierholtz ('03).
